Monday: Mexican out
Tuesday: French dip sandwiches, french fries
Wednesday: Chicken tacos, corn, cilantro rice
Thursday: Chicken fried steak, crash hot potatoes, cauliflower
Friday: I think something with shrimp...not sure yet.

Winter CSA Week 11

This was a great week for our CSA!

  • 1 pint maple syrup (perfect, because I am almost out!)
  • 1.5 lbs whole wheat flour
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage links (ate them on Sunday morning!)
  • 1 lb granola
  • 1 lb frozen veg (we got cauliflower)
  • Choice of ham hock, turkey parts, or pork tenderloin...I went with the tenderloin.  BBQ pork!
  • 1 package chicken patties
  • 1 lb carrots (which we didn't get, so we got kohlrabi)
  • 5 lbs potatoes
  • Quarter peck apples
  • The strawberries were supposed to come in last week's bag, but they were out at our stop, so we got them this week.  Trevor had extras, so I bought two more to put in the freezer.  We used one package on Sunday morning with our waffles and they were SO GOOD.
  • Extras: I bought a package of bacon and the two strawberries, plus a package of this cheese called Siberian Nights that is rubbed with Thirsty Dog Beer.  It was AMAZING.

Menu Planning Monday and Lessons

Well, we are back with another Menu Planning Monday and another OrgJunkie link up!  I went grocery shopping on Saturday and spent $130, which is about $40 more than my average grocery shopping.  I gave in to the teens' requests of...junk food.  I came home with far more CRAP than I have since joining Fresh Fork Market's CSA last summer (here is my review/post about our FIRST bag last May!).  My ideas and opinions on food have dramatically changed in the past year, and although I am working hard to get my family to change along with me, there are just some things that they are unwilling to give up or buy in to.  It is a slow process, but I think it is much harder with teenagers who have already formed thoughts and opinions about food.  I am hoping to instill some of these good habits into Logan while he is growing up.  Anyway, I came home, looked at what I bought, and was shocked with myself.  This will be the LAST time this happens.  They have been warned :)

Anyway, we had a GORGEOUS weekend here in Cleveland, and we brought the grill to the back patio and used it both nights :)

Saturday: Burgers and chips
Sunday: BBQ chicken thighs, herbed cous cous, broccoli
Monday: Pasta with tomato cream sauce
Tuesday: Chicken Caesar Salads
Wednesday: Patty Melts and Fries
Thursday:  Clean out the fridge day :)
Friday: Pizza and salad

MPM (or Tuesday)

I changed over to use OrgJunkie's spring banner because I am so.over Cleveland winter this year.  I am yearning to open the windows, start line-drying my clothing, get the garden planted, and get the Little Man outside to play.  Plus, I am fairly certain Ozzie is packing on the pounds, lol. I can't wait to be able to come home and take Logan and the pup for a walk!

Here is the menu for the week:

Sunday: I was at Ikea in Pittsburgh, so C made taco salads
Monday: Spaghetti (with sauce from the freezer)
Tuesday: Chili and cornbread
Wednesday: Chicken patties/nuggets with green beans and mac and cheese (yup, one of those days!)
Thursday: Cream cheese crockpot chicken over pasta
Friday:  Tuna sammies and chips
Saturday: Not sure yet!

Winter CSA Week 10

This week's bag:

  • 1 package Berkshire pork chops (putting them in the freezer for now)
  • 2 pint frozen green beans (will make when we have a quick dinner within the next two weeks)
  • 1 half-pint sorghum syrup (absolutely no clue)
  • 1.5 lbs rolled oats (I was out, so this is perfect timing!)
  • 3 lbs turnips (OMG we are in turnip overload and I don't know how to use them)
  • 1 quart Velvet View yogurt (perfect for baking!)
  • 1 half pint fire-roasted cherry tomatoes (probably will make a pasta dish next week)
  • 1 quart frozen strawberries (we actually didn't get these because they miscounted)
  • 1 dozen eggs
  • 1 lb Ohio City pasta (I think we have pumpkin)
  • 1 quart frozen cauliflower
  • 1 lb carrots
I used the carrots for dinner on Saturday night, along with our Yukon potatoes and the frozen peas.  The peas tasted REALLY weird, so I don't know what happened.  My friend Melissa suggested maybe they were picked late, because they were HUGE.  Hers tasted fine, ours were crunchy and had a funky taste.  I am hoping the other frozen veggies are okay.  We will find out this week when I make them!  Excited to have the pumpkin pasta again because it is SO good with a cream sauce with bacon and shallots.  The chops will go into the freezer because it was the last meal I ate before the stomach flu and NOT sure when I will be able to eat them again!

Overall, a GREAT bag (minus the turnips).  As each week passes, I get more and more excited about the summer!

Day 2: Favorite Quotes

Day 1: Self-Portrait and 5 Random Facts

I totally look insane in this picture.  But I am pretty crazy most of the time.
1.  I have seen the musical RENT 9 or 10 times live.  I lost count.  It has been my favorite since high school.
2.  I am afraid of clowns.
3.  I have been an insomniac since like, 3rd grade.  I used to take out as many books as we were allowed from the library and I would just stay up and read.
4.  I like my coffee really light and really sweet.
5.  Speaking of sleep, everyone asks how I have so much time to read.  The truth is that I can not go to sleep unless I have read before bed.
