I have been tagged!

I have been tagged by Colleen to share seven random facts about myself. Colleen and I met in the cyber world while I was planning my wedding. Thanks Colleen!

I have plenty of random information about me, so even though I think I have done this before, here goes nothin'...

1. My favorite movies are Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz. The Wicked Witch of the West has a particular place in my heart because I played her in our high school performance of the musical. And I think Scarlet O'Hara was an IDIOT to ever even THINK she wanted Ashley Wilkes.

2. I have a coffee mug that I use specifically for the fall/Halloween. It is a pumpkin and cute. OK, go ahead and laugh now.

3. I feel like a failure because my husband has lost almost 30 lbs. since "our" diet started. I have gained 4.

4. I have placemats for all seasons and change then accordingly to season or holiday. And I really want Christmas dishes this year.

5. If I have nothing to read, I will read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. And I have to read all fourteen books before I can move on.

6. I cry whenever the movie Armageddon is on because only in that movie does Bruce Willis remind me of my dad (looks-wise, not blowing up the planet-wise).

7. I love the TV show Charmed.

So, most of the blogs I read have already been tagged, so here is who I am tagging:
Kandace at One Crazy Chick
Heather at Heather Drive
Laura at Laura the Loser

Sorry I do not have seven people to add!

It's that time of year...

Fall. I love it. It is my favorite time of the year. I love the smells, the leaves changing, HALLOWEEN, not to mention my birthday. Hoodies and football and pumpkin flavored ANYTHING. So what is the issue, you may ask?

Jeans. I have one pair that fits.

I have been kidding myself by believing I have been on WW for the last month. I have not. I have tracked one or two meals here and there sporadically. I am full of crap. And when I went to find a pair of jeans to put on (since the ONE pair that fits was in the washer), I pulled out pair after pair that I could not get anywhere NEAR to buttoning. My belts no longer fit, either.

It was a kick in the ass that was definitely needed. I will not be this fat by the time Christmas rolls around.

Teachable Moments

As an Education major at Baldwin-Wallace College (ok, my first two years were at Bowling Green, so I can't not include it), one of the things profs always stress to their students are teachable moments. Those times when we must deviate from the day to day process of learning and educating to talk about what the HELL is going on in the real world.

I can remember a few of these in my lifetime as a student. The first is the day after the Columbine shootings in April of 1999. All of the teachers discussed what had happened, but what I vividly remember is my Bio II professor (who was one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had) just pulled out a stack of newspapers and said, "Read. Then we can talk about how you feel and what you are scared of." For weeks we lived in fear that someone would shoot up our school, as rumors spread like wildfire that a gunman was going to shoot up our next pep rally. The rumors were unfounded, and the year continued. But those weeks are filled with moments that will live forever in my memory.

The next was seven years ago, on 9/11/01. I was getting ready for class at BW and my aunt called, telling me to turn on the TV. Ironically, this was the moment the second plane hit the World Trade Center, and I could not believe what I was seeing. I left for class, and the campus was filled with people on cell phones and with radios, calling loved ones and hoping for updates. We were glued to our televisions and radios and prayed for those we did not know, but felt a kindship with as Americans. It was a tragedy that will forever live in my memory.

These are moments where we step away from our lives and feel retrospective. We must look at the lessons they have taught us and how these tragedies make us stronger, as individuals and as a country. We must look at how far we have come and how much further we must travel to accomplish all that we need to in order to create a better world for our children.

I am a Football Widow

Football season started today.

And yes, I have lost my husband to the love of the game.

OK, not even so much the game as the Cleveland Browns. And tailgating. Probably moreso tailgating than even the game.

And I know he is going to be really cranky when he gets home tonight. I mean, did the defense even show up today??

On a different note, it has been awhile since updating. Things have been crazy over here, which school and grad classes and trying to get into my internship. I have some pretty good kids in my classes, even though I can't get my morning classes to talk or even acknowledge the fact that they are in class at all. Which for the most part is ok, but have 30 vacant faces looking at you can be pretty eerie. They even WRITE quietly. It is so weird.

Went to the Cheap Trick/Heart/Journey concert last night with everyone. It was a good time. Jimbo forgot his ticket, but luckily we were able to buy one off of someone. We missed Cheap Trick totally, but Heart kicked some serious ass. Journey was awesome, but no one was paying attention to their new stuff. Who wants to hear new Journey? We want the classics! Got home pretty late and then C got up at the ass-crack of dawn to tailgate.

I love Sundays in the fall. Today I just did laundry, layed around, and watched the football game with my brother Matt. I made a yummy roast with potatoes and carrots and baked some pumpkin spice muffins (and added chocolate chip). Unfortunately, Sunday night leads to Monday mornings.

Did I mention I am finally .2 lbs below what I started at when I went back to WW on July 26? I had a huge gain in Idaho and it has taken me forever to take it off. Today has been a bust though...PMS is driving me to eat the entire house.
